Target’s Newest Viral Tote Bag Is a Bogg Bag Dupe, Perfect for Mother’s Day Gifting

As the warmer weather approaches, Target has ramped up its summer line of accessories. This year, on its shelves is a new bag eerily similar to the very pricey Bogg Bags that took the internet by storm in 2020.

The Instagram page Target Gems shared a video of the multicolored assortment of totes on the shelves of the Bullseye store. The company’s brand is called Sun Squad, and the bag retails for $15, while Bogg Bags retail for around $100.

Both the Sun Squad and Bogg Bags are plastic, have sturdy handles, and contain holes throughout. This design element is to ensure easy cleanup.

The key difference between the original tote and its Target dupe is the shape. Bogg bags are rectangular with a flat bottom, while Sun Squad totes have more of a rounded top.

Bogg Bags are still sold at the Bullseye retailer and on its website in a variety of styles, from plain to adorned with college team logos.

Target Introduced a Branded Version of the Bogg Bag for the 2024 Holiday Season

In December 2024, Target introduced its own branded version of the wildly popular tote. Bogg Bags released a limited-edition, exclusive Bullseye tote and two additional colors (Beach Hydrangea and For Shore WHITE), according to a press release. The price for these collaborations? The Original style sets shoppers back between $90 and $100, and The Bitty costs $60.

Kim Vaccarella, CEO and founder of Bogg, said of the partnership at the time, “Bogg has become a viral sensation over the years and landing a partnership with an iconic company like Target is a testament to our growth. The partnership perfectly aligns with Bogg’s mission of delivering fashionable, functional bags for every lifestyle. Launching a Bullseye bag is truly a dream come true and I can’t wait to see shoppers using it on their weekly Target hauls!”

To Inc., Vaccarella added, “It’s a big deal to go into Target, and of course — it’s a lot of people’s dream. Target was hot and heavy for a while. We kind of slow-played it a little bit.”

Vaccarella founded Bogg Bags out of the personal need for a beach bag that could withstand the rigors of family outings to New Jersey beaches. Frustrated by traditional beach bags that were flimsy, hard to clean, and prone to tipping over, she envisioned a durable, spacious, and washable tote. Inspired by the material used in Crocs shoes, she created a prototype using EVA foam, resulting in a bag that was both functional and stylish.
