THE WHAT? The FDA has issued a warning about two tattoo inks from Sacred Tattoo Ink—Raven Black (Lot#: RB0624) and Sunny Daze (Lot#: SD1124)—that were found to be contaminated with harmful bacteria.
THE DETAILS Routine FDA testing identified the presence of microorganisms, including Pseudomonas aeruginosa, in both inks. These bacteria can cause infections when tattooed into the skin. Reported symptoms include red bumps, rashes, and possible scarring. Because these symptoms may resemble allergic reactions, diagnosis can be delayed.
THE WHY? Tattoo inks fall under cosmetic regulation. Contaminated inks carry a health risk when injected into the skin. The FDA is advising consumers not to get tattoos with these inks and is asking tattoo artists and retailers to stop using and selling the affected lots.
