Having done this a long time, I am used to rises and falls in applications. I think this increase, in part, is a result of the election of Donald Trump. We saw it after he was elected in 2016, though this increase is greater. His election calls attention to the importance of the law and more want to go to law school to be part of fighting for justice.
— Dean Erwin Chemerinsky of UC Berkeley Law, in comments to Law.com, concerning the “enormous” increases in applications that some law schools are seeing for fall 2025 admission, with some schools reporting a record-high number of applications. Per LSAC, there’s been a 19.5% year-over-year increase in people applying to law school.
