NIH Caps Indirect Cost Rates
JAMA readers are well aware that on February 7, 2025, the National Institutes of Health (NIH) issued a Rate Change Notice, which set indirect cost rates for NIH grants at 15%. This rate is substantially lower than traditional rates, which are often at levels of 30% to 60% or more. Each research university negotiates its individual indirect rate with the NIH.
