Morrisons names Asda exec as new trading director

Asda online trading director Emma Pacey has joined Morrisons as its new trading director for general merchandise.

The executive served at Asda for almost 20 years under various roles including senior director ecommerce transformation and senior director retail operations.

A Morrisons spokesman said: “Emma is known for delivering market share gains, supplier-led innovation and customer-focused offers, particularly across general merchandise.

“She combines deep commercial know-how with a real passion for delivering for customers, and we’re excited to have her on board as we continue to build momentum across the business.”

Pacey’s hire comes hot on the heels of Asda exec Matt McLellan joining the rival supermarket under the newly created position of group data and media director.

Before joining Asda, McLellan most recently served as group customer propositions director of Tesco.

Morrisons has also hired Tim Conder as its new commercial director for non-food and frozen.

The executive previously served under multiple roles at Aldi UK, including group buying director from September 2020 until October 2021, and worked as category buying manager – bakery for Tesco from January 2017 to December 2017.

Last month, Morrisons named former Lidl marketing boss Claire Farrant to head up its marketing department, replacing Rachel Eyre.

In April, the grocery giant also named former Aldi exec George Brown as its new group property director.
