In the ever-evolving world of luxury accessories, it’s rare to encounter a brand that feels both quietly confident and distinct in its simplicity. Enter atelier MERANDI, a Bangkok-based label crafting leather bags for those who see art in life — and life in art.
Founded by Kate Socatiyanurak and Grace Tungpanitansook, seasoned entrepreneurs with a track record of building thoughtful, design-led ventures, atelier MERANDI represents their latest and most ambitious creative expression.
At first glance, MERANDI’s debut piece, the MIKI bag, signals a different kind of luxury: one rooted not in logos or fleeting trends, but in meticulous craftsmanship, thoughtful materials and a deeply considered design philosophy, drawing from Swiss precision, the Japanese sense of quiet elegance and the Nordic love for calm minimalism.
As younger consumers increasingly seek meaning, quality and design integrity over heritage logos, brands like MERANDI are redefining what luxury means in the 2020s — thoughtful, slow-made and emotionally resonant. Based in Bangkok, MERANDI taps into the city’s quiet but growing reputation as a creative capital, blending a cosmopolitan outlook with regional craftsmanship.
The MIKI’s silhouette draws inspiration from the Japanese art of origami, subtly folding an “M” into its supple calf leather structure. It’s a design that feels immediately relatable yet entirely distinct — relaxed, refined and timeless.
Behind the brand are co-founders and co-creative directors Kate and Grace. Though outside the traditional fashion establishment, they bring serious cross-disciplinary experience: Kate, a graduate of the London School of Economics, lends strategic clarity, while Grace, with a background in communications and culinary arts, brings a sensory, customer-centric lens. MERANDI marks their third business together, following two profitable ventures — both of which cultivated a loyal community.
“We’re not building a handbag brand in the traditional sense,” say co-founders Kate and Grace. “We’re building an idea — an idea that just happens to take the form of a bag. We’re not big fans of labeling.”
That idea is already resonating.
“Ahead of our official launch, we began receiving interest through our existing networks — from stylists and boutique buyers across Asia and Europe, likely drawn to our refined aesthetic and clean lines — a design that is simple but special,” they add. “We are also exploring partnerships across France, Japan, Singapore, and the Middle East — as well as new innovative materials that align with our ethos. The world is so fast-moving nowadays, and with this, we are thankful for the warm response we’ve received despite being such a young brand. This proves that there’s still room for brands that build slowly and speak softly.”
According to their Instagram @ateliermerandi, this October the brand will debut at Tranoï Paris, presenting their upcoming Spring/Summer 2026 collection — and offering a glimpse into the broader world they are creating and a long-term vision rooted in authenticity, not hype. All of it delivered with a quiet accessibility that makes MERANDI’s pieces as pragmatic as they are poetic.
