[Comment] Dietary energy in balance: time for an update of energy requirements

Estimated energy requirements (EERs) are used every day for diverse purposes. In clinical care they provide the basis to plan diets for weight maintenance, gain, or loss. But EERs also aid in the planning of public food procurement programmes (eg, for school meals and prisons), and in the formulation of specialised foods (eg, for pregnant women and malnourished children). They are also important in the calculations of the prevalence of undernourishment, the primary indicator used to track progress towards the achievement of Sustainable Development Goal 2: zero hunger.
