THE WHAT? Boots has launched a nationwide dermatology training program for its pharmacists, complemented by an AI-powered skin analysis tool, aiming to enhance skincare support across its UK stores.

THE DETAILS In collaboration with L’Oréal Groupe and consultant dermatologist Dr. Justine Hextall, Boots has developed a training program approved by the British Association of Dermatologists. This initiative equips pharmacists to advise on common skin conditions, including acne, eczema, psoriasis, rosacea, and hyperpigmentation, without the need for appointments. Concurrently, Boots introduced the SmartSkin Checker, an AI-driven tool available via its Online Doctor service, capable of screening for over 70 skin conditions through photo uploads.

THE WHY?  With skin conditions accounting for one in four GP consultations in England and Wales, Boots aims to alleviate healthcare pressures by providing accessible skincare support in-store. The integration of pharmacist training and AI technology reflects a strategic move to position Boots as a primary destination for skincare advice, combining professional expertise with innovative digital tools.
