Whether you are an avid surfer or have never set foot on a board in your life, we can all appreciate the art of surfing. From sleek boards to smooth rides, the intricacies of the sport are unlike any other. Jada Stanley decided to spread that culture to the whole world. Having grown up in Australia and living for years in Bali, Stanley has been immersed in surf culture since she was a child. Nusa Indah Surfboards was born out of the idea to create an intrinsic surfboard that doubled in function as well as a piece of art for the home in between surf sessions. Because that’s what surfing is all about: the lifestyle. This is our guide to surfing to make all parts of the lifestyle a reality.
From Nusa Indah’s handcrafted, bespoke boards to chic wetsuits to apt home décor, everything you need to embrace surf style awaits. Stanley also gave us some insight into her brand, so if you are thinking about buying a board, she’s covering everything you need to know.

Haute Living: What inspired you to start Nusa Indah Surfboards?
Jada Stanley: Nusa Indah Surfboards began as a passion project. After taking time out of the water to raise young children, I wanted to create a surfboard that would inspire me to go back into the ocean. I envisioned something not only functional, but beautiful enough to hang on the wall as art between sessions. I sought out a maker who could incorporate a batik textile I’d found during our travels in Indonesia. I shared the board on social media, and was surprised by the interest it sparked. It became clear there was a place in the market for surfboards that blended craftsmanship and aesthetic beauty.
HL: What differentiates your boards on the market?
JS: While our boards are instantly recognizable by their unique batik and artist-designed prints, what truly sets us apart is the integrity of the craft. Each board tells a story, inspired by a life lived by the sea and shaped by my love of fashion, travel, art, textiles, and surf culture. We create high-performance boards for real surfers, made by a team that understands the importance of both design and function. My personal journey—from childhood holidays on Nusa Lembongan and surf charter boats off Lombok and Sumbawa, to running a surf school, studying psychology and travelling the world—has influenced everything we do, from our color palettes, designs and textile choices, to the way we tailor boards to our clients’ needs. Today, I surf with my children, and our love of the ocean and connection to places we visit is at the heart of everything we create.

HL: Who are these boards for?
JS: Our surfboards are for everyone, however they often resonate with women seeking a surfboard that inspires them to start surfing or return to the water. They’re also loved by travelers who want to take home a meaningful holiday memento from their stay in iconic destinations including Le Sirenuse, Positano, The Brazilian Court in Palm Beach, or The Atlantis Hotel in the Bahamas. We’ve also become a canvas for artists and designers to showcase their work, and a statement piece for interiors, and coastal-inspired events. Our boards bring calm, beauty, and that dreamy ‘endless summer’ feeling to any space—they are a reminder that life exists beyond the daily grind.
HL: What is your favorite board you’ve ever made?
JS: Each new design tends to become my favorite, but The Madonna holds a special place in my heart. It blends 1980s vintage designer motifs with ocean-inspired art and pays tribute to Madonna’s Like a Prayer, the anthem for every girl who grew up in that era. It’s bold, nostalgic, and brings me so much joy!

HL: What do you hope your boards bring to the world?
JS: Above all, joy. Whether hanging on a wall or gliding through the water, I want our boards to lift the spirits of those who encounter them. You know that age old look good, feel great? There’s something empowering about walking into the water with a beautiful silk-adorned surfboard under your arm. It’s also a real privilege contributing to spaces that spark emotions and stir memories—we love being part of interior projects that can transport you to another world. In everything we do, we aim to bring a sense of lightness and beauty to the world.
