A New Era of Sensitive Luxury: Inside the Reimagined Montcalm Mayfair

London’s Mayfair neighborhood doesn’t exactly lack for five-star options. But with the arrival of the newly reopened Montcalm Mayfair, a quieter, more cultivated form of luxury has emerged—one that whispers rather than shouts, steeped in story, soul, and sustainability.
Following a two-year top-to-bottom renovation led by the Montcalm Collection and designed by award-winning architecture firm Holland Harvey, the boutique hotel has redefined what it means to deliver “Sensitive Luxury.” That’s not just a phrase—it’s a philosophy. Everything here is intentional, from the art on the walls to the poetry hidden inside the wardrobes.

Housed in a restored Georgian building that once bore the scars of WWII, the new Montcalm Mayfair blends preservation with innovation. The building’s original architecture has been respectfully enhanced: floor-to-ceiling windows flood rooms with natural light, while a new mansard-roofed wing introduces 15 additional guest rooms and suites.
Inside, designers Studio Est and Studio Mica have struck a harmonious balance between grandeur and groundedness. The lobby reads like a collector’s home—warm oak floors, hand-painted floral ceiling murals, soft curves and tactile fabrics. Even the chandeliers have a story. Furniture crafted by social-impact studios like Goldfinger Factory and linens embroidered by refugees via SEP Jordan underscore a sense of purpose woven into the design DNA.
The art curation is equally considered. More than 800 pieces line the halls and guest rooms, including modern portraits of characters inspired by Mayfair’s storied past—from salon queen Elizabeth Montagu to violin virtuoso George Bridgetower. Even bedtime gets the poetic treatment: sleep poems penned by MFA students from Goldsmiths rest beside the bed, paired with illustrations by Petra Börner.
Signature Suites with a Sense of Place

The Botanical Suite—perhaps London’s most private hotel suite—has its own street entrance and a bespoke mural by artist Camille Rousseau, inspired by the building’s ancient garden roots. The Drawing Room Suite pays homage to the intellectual salons of the 18th century with rare works by Joan Miró. The Parlour Suite leans more contemporary, lined with modern lithographs that add vibrancy to the timeless shell.
Every room comes stocked with Frette linens, Penhaligon’s amenities, and those oh-so-charming bespoke wardrobe wallpapers (look closely and you’ll find poetry embedded in the design).
A Culinary Garden of Earthly Delights

The hotel’s standout restaurant, Lilli by Akira Back, brings unexpected flavor to Mayfair’s already elite dining scene. Known for blending his Korean heritage with global fine dining flair, Michelin-starred chef Akira Back has created a menu that remixes British classics with Japanese precision and seasonal, locally sourced ingredients.
Set within a luminous, garden-themed space that evolves from morning sun to sultry evening light, Lilli is an aesthetic experience in itself. A swirling hand-painted ceiling mural by Will Foster blooms above diners, while the softly glowing bar—capped with a fluted glass gantry—anchors the room with elegance.

The cocktail menu is a botanical adventure, infusing Asian ingredients with English garden classics. Highlights include the Rose Negroni, scented with British rose and Japanese sakura, and the Summer Solstice, a zero-proof blend of spice, citrus, and sunshine. For something more intimate, the Bloom Private Dining Room hosts up to 14 guests amid botanical artwork and a ceiling mural by Rousseau. A painting titled An Orange Tree by Lilia Orlova-Holmes anchors the space, symbolizing prosperity, optimism, and joy.
Later this year, expect the launch of an elevated afternoon tea, a seasonal chef’s tasting menu, and a full-fledged garden-to-glass cocktail programme.
A Spa That Speaks to the Soul

Photo Credit: Montcalm MayfairTucked beneath the hotel like a secret sanctuary, the YĀTRĀ Signature Spa is more than just a place to unwind—it’s a holistic wellness retreat inspired by Ayurveda, East African ritual, and London’s global spirit.
Created by spa consultancy COCON and designed by Studio Est, YĀTRĀ means “journey” in Sanskrit. Here, the journey is inward. Four treatment rooms (including a double suite), a plunge pool, saunas, and a tea ritual lounge invite guests to slow down and reset.
Treatments blend ancient healing with modern skincare, thanks to partnerships with QMS Medicosmetics and Mauli Rituals. Whether it’s the Savasana Muscle Warming Polti Massage or the Chakra Body Realign Ritual, each therapy is tailored to your needs—both physical and emotional.
And then there are the thoughtful touches: biodegradable slippers, a custom spa aroma with notes of eucalyptus, pine, and sandalwood, and an ambient soundscape composed of actual British woodland recordings by audio artists at MindFidelity.
A New Kind of London Luxury

In a city where excess is often mistaken for excellence, Montcalm Mayfair introduces something far more enduring: consideration. Consideration for history, for sustainability, for design, for community. It’s a hotel that welcomes you in softly, like a friend’s beautiful home, and leaves a lasting imprint—one that’s as much about how you feel as what you see.
