THE WHAT? Unilever will invest US$1.5bn in Mexico from 2025 to 2028, with plans that include a new facility dedicated to beauty and personal care products.
THE DETAILS The consumer goods company confirmed the investment — equivalent to 30 billion pesos — during a press event hosted by Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum. The plan includes 8 billion pesos (US$407.4m) allocated to the construction of a new manufacturing facility in Nuevo Leon, which will focus specifically on beauty and personal care production. The broader investment is expected to generate 1,200 jobs across various initiatives.
THE WHY? The move aligns with Mexico’s government-led push to attract foreign direct investment through the “Plan Mexico” initiative. For Unilever, the expansion supports growing regional demand for personal care products while bolstering its nearshoring strategy in North America.
