Minerals Council still unhappy with new mining Bill despite two key changes

Despite Mineral and Petroleum Resources Minister Gwede Mantashe gazetting a much-welcomed erratum to the controversial new Mineral Resources Development Bill on June 9, the Minerals Council South Africa is still not convinced the Bill is good for the industry. Mantashe’s corrections effectively remove a contentious requirement for Ministerial consent on changes of control in listed companies, as well as eliminates the controversial empowerment clause relating to prospecting rights that had many in the industry up in arms.
