How Kwadwo Tuffour of Serene Herbs is Reshaping the Wellness Industry

Kwadwo Tuffour, known as KT, is a 26-year-old Ghanaian-American founder shaking up the wellness industry with Serene Herbs, a detox brand launched in 2022 that’s redefining self-care by making it real, relatable, and deeply rooted in African traditions. KT’s vision for the wellness industry is breaking down the intimidating boundaries of the industry and focusing on an ancestral, affordable, and community-driven herbal line that prioritizes authenticity over trends.

Starting with a single hero product—a soursop bitters detox tonic passed down through generations in his Ghanaian family—KT has built a grassroots movement grounded in radical transparency about bloating, digestion, anxiety, and ancestral healing. As a young male founder in a female-dominated space, he’s flipping the script, fostering a bold, inclusive community that champions real results and cultural connection over polished exclusivity. Ahead, discover how KT is making the wellness industry feel palpable, what he is currently working on, and the wellness products and rituals he swears by.

HAUTE LIVING: You launched Serene Herbs in 2025 with a single detox tonic rooted in your Ghanaian heritage, turning a family remedy into a million-dollar brand. What inspired you to take that leap, and how did you navigate the challenges of bootstrapping while staying true to your vision of ancestral, accessible wellness?

KT: The leap came from both urgency and instinct. My mother and grandmother used a potent detox recipe growing up in Ghana something they swore by for everything from gut health to skin clarity. I started selling similar products on Amazon just trying to see if it would work, decided to launch one on my own with a ton of intuition and it hit.

I didn’t have outside funding or a team at the time. Just conviction. Every label, every shipment, every customer emailI touched it all. Staying true to the roots meant no shortcuts. We never diluted the formula, never compromised the integrity of the herbs, even when that meant slower growth or more manual labor. I think that authenticity is what people felt and trusted—It was very tough and expensive, but with passion and conviction, the breakthroughs that make it all work just come naturally.

HL: The wellness industry can often feel exclusive—Serene Herbs flips that narrative with radical transparency and community focus. How do you ensure your brand remains relatable and inclusive, especially for communities historically sidelined in the wellness space?

KT: Wellness shouldn’t feel gated. Too often, it’s presented as a luxury reserved for a select few with sterile aesthetics and price points that alienate the communities who actually need it most.

At Serene Herbs, we flipped the script. We tell real stories, educate without jargon, and speak to people like we’re speaking to family, not customers. Our packaging features African and Caribbean cultural elements. Our ingredients are pronounced proudly and not hidden behind euphemisms.

Most importantly, we include our community in everything from TikTok Shop demos to subscriber-only education portals and rewards. This isn’t a brand you observe from the outside, it’s one you build with us as we grow.

HL: Shipping disasters, like thousands of shattered bottles, could’ve derailed your early momentum. How did you overcome those setbacks to build a BPA-free fulfillment model, and what lessons from that experience have shaped Serene Herbs’ growth to nearly $1M in monthly revenue?

KT: We used to bubble-wrap every glass bottle by hand, six feet per order. Not sustainable. One week, we lost thousands of units to breakage in transit. That moment almost broke us. But it forced us to innovate.

We transitioned to 16oz amber BPA-free plastic bottles, upgraded our packaging materials, and invested in a paper-fill machine to reduce waste. This shift saved us tens of thousands a month and dramatically lowered breakage, creating happy customers.

The lesson? Resilience doesn’t mean avoiding breakdowns, it means engineering better systems afterward. That shipping disaster taught us to scale with intention.

KT: Your upcoming GLP-1-supporting herbal stack and Herbal Support Squad ambassador program sound like game-changers. Can you share how these initiatives reflect Serene Herbs’ commitment to blending African superfood traditions with modern health needs, and what impact do you hope they’ll have?

KT: Our GLP-1 stack is our answer to the Ozempic wave, but it’s rooted in herbs like African Mango, InnoSlim, and Berberine. It supports appetite, blood sugar, and metabolism without synthetic interventions. We’re pairing that with a daily pre-meal stick pack for fast-acting fullness and digestion. This is a healthy way to help you reach your weight goals without damaging yourself, having crazy long-term side effects, or becoming dependent.

The Herbal Support Squad brings this mission to life: a group of creators, educators, and wellness warriors from all backgrounds who share their real healing journeys with our products. It’s not about hype, it’s about honesty.

Together, these initiatives aim to make ancestral wellness aspirational again, not outdated, not fringe, but the future.

HL: What other innovations are you currently working on?

KT: We’re expanding our product line to tackle some of the most pressing and often overlooked health challenges of today. That includes a full-spectrum parasite cleanse and heavy metal detox, both rooted in ancient herbal protocols that have stood the test of time. We’re also developing new flavors of our signature bitters to make the healing journey more accessible and enjoyable, especially for first-time users.

Looking ahead, we’re formulating hormonal support products designed with women’s wellness in mind, from energy and mood to metabolism and balance. Everything we create is built to support the body’s natural detox pathways and address the root causes of inflammation, fatigue, and dysfunction before they snowball into bigger issues.

On the business side, we’re growing our wholesale partnerships with select retailers who align with our mission and values. Our focus isn’t just to scale for the sake of growth, it’s to expand access to ancestral wellness in a way that feels intentional, rooted, and real.

HL: As a 26-year-old male founder in a female-dominated wellness space, you’re bringing a fresh perspective with formulas packed with over 85 African superfoods. How do you balance honoring centuries-old traditions with innovating for today’s consumers, and what’s your vision for Serene Herbs’ role in redefining holistic healing?

KT: I see myself as a bridge. Our ancestors gave us these tools, but it’s on us to repackage them in a way that’s compelling to today’s consumer. That means clinical studies alongside folklore. That means high-impact UGC next to centuries-old rituals.

I’m not here to water it down—I’m here to elevate it.

My vision is for Serene Herbs to become the global authority on African-rooted detox, gut health, and holistic healing. A brand that redefines luxury not by exclusivity, but by integrity. Wellness you can feel in your body and your spirit.

HL: What are 5–6 health and/or wellness products, routines, or tools that you personally swear by?

KT: Absolutely—these are the core rituals that keep me grounded, sharp, and energized in the midst of building something big:

Intermittent Fasting: I start every morning fasted. It sharpens my focus, gives my digestion a break, and sets a disciplined tone for the day.

Daily Detox with Soursop Bitters: This is my non-negotiable. A shot of bitters every morning helps clear brain fog, support gut health, and reset my system.

Clean Eating + Hydration Rituals: I keep my nutrition simple and anti-inflammatory, and I always enhance my water with electrolytes or coconut water to stay fully hydrated and energized.

Morning Walks + Sauna Sessions: Movement and heat therapy are medicine. I walk every morning and do a daily sauna to detox, decompress, and stay mentally clear.

Eight Sleep Pod Cover: Sleep is my superpower. The Eight Sleep regulates my temperature and tracks recovery like no other.

Magnesium Glycinate + L-Theanine Combo: My go-to stack at night to calm the nervous system and wind down after high-performance days. [https://www.thorne.com/products/magnesium-bisglycinate]
