Consumers Will Spend More on Father’s Day in 2025, But Economic Challenges Mean They’ll Shop Smarter: Report
A new report shares that consumers will spend more for Father's Day this year.

A new report by NIQ reveals that consumers will spend more on Father’s Day in 2025. However, economic challenges means they’ll be shopping smarter.
The insights reveal that while 9-in-10 shoppers planned to complete their purchases in the month leading up to Father’s Day, about 25% will wait until the days before to make their decisions. Additionally, 69% of shoppers will purchase their gifts in stores, while 66% will head to the internet.
“This Father’s Day, nearly all consumers expect to spend at least as much as they did last year, with 47% anticipating they will spend even more. The average expected spend is approximately $224, with males expected to spend more on average ($275) compared to females ($185),” the insights reveal.
“This trend indicates a strong willingness among consumers to invest in meaningful gifts for their fathers, despite economic uncertainties. Brands should take advantage of this by offering a range of products at various price points to cater to different budgets. Highlighting the value and quality of their offerings can also encourage consumers to spend more.”
Three-quarters of consumers celebrate Father’s Day, with an average spending of $196.23 per person on gifts.

Additionally, Father’s Day 2025 spending is being shaped by ongoing economic pressures, with half of consumers saying inflation and rising prices will influence how much they spend. Younger shoppers are especially feeling the strain, as economic challenges continue to impact their purchasing power.
Apparel and footwear, along with men’s fragrances, are among the top choices for Father’s Day. Additionally, gift cards, sporting goods, hobby products, and home improvement or tools products remain popular, as do tech gadgets.
On the other hand, women are more likely to purchase unique and sentimental gifts such as personalized keepsakes. The report states. “This variety in gift preferences indicates that consumers are looking for both practical and luxurious options to celebrate their fathers.”
When is Father’s Day 2025?
Although it’s not recognized as a federal holiday, Father’s Day is celebrated every year in June. In 2025, it falls on June 15.
The first Father’s Day dates back to 1908 after a service occurred in Fairmont, West Virginia, after hundreds of men died in the worst mining accident in U.S. history, reported Almanac. However, one year later, in 1909, Sonora Smart Dodd of Spokane, Washington raised the idea to honor her father, William, who raised his five children alone after his wife died in childbirth.
A bill to put Father’s Day on the calendar was first introduced in 1913, but it did not pass. President Calvin Coolidge signed a resolution in favor of the holiday in 1921 and in 1966, President Lyndon Johnson signed an executive order that Father’s Day be celebrated on the third Sunday in June. In 1972, President Richard Nixon declared it an official holiday.
