Camus releases sea-aged Cognac for HK$1.9m
Cognac house Camus has released the latest expression from its Voyages Extraordinaires collection, available at Sotheby's Hong Kong for HK$1,870,240. Camus releases sea-aged Cognac for HK$1.9m Sous Les Mers, Camus' latest release, is one of five collector's pieces crafted by the maison. Sotheby's Hong Kong is now offering the Cognac for purchase at HK$1,870,240 (£177,000) at its maison through the end of August 2025. Camus' Voyages Extraordinaires collection is inspired by the works of famous French novelist Jules Verne. The Cognac house's latest release is a nod to adventure novel Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea, which depicts Captain Nemo's submarine Nautilus and was regarded as ahead of its time in 1869 when it was first released. Sous Les Mers was created by cellar master Julie Landreau and Isabelle Collignon, global creative director at Camus. The Cognac's final blend centres around liquid from a 35-litre cask which was submerged in the Atlantic Ocean to mature for a number of months. Camus releases sea-aged Cognac for HK$1.9m "By plunging it into the ocean, we invited nature to leave its fingerprint on the spirit," said Cyril Camus, the fifth generation of Camus Family. Submerging casks in the ocean impacts the maturation of the spirit inside as the rhythm of the tides, pressure and darkness all impact its evolution. The final blend also includes a century-old Borderies from Camus’ Private Reserves, a 1972 Grande Champagne expression and four Île de Ré Cognacs aged between 12 and 17 years. Camus has partnered with French crystal-maker Maison Daum for the decanter and surrounding sculpture – a 1m a crystal and bronze octopus. The Cognac house has unveiled Sous Les Mers as the second chapter in the release of its Extraordinary Voyage Collection. The first, L'Île Cognac, debuted in London, paying tribute to Phileas Fogg's departure point in Jules Verne’s Around the World in 80 Days. The Sotheby’s Maison at Landmark Chater will display Sous Les Mers on 5-26 June 2025. In addition to Sous Les Mers, Sotheby’s is also displaying five other Camus Cognacs:
  • Cuvée Electrum 4.186
  • Camus Tribute to Nature – Fire
  • Three expressions from the Poets & Birds Collection — Crane, Phoenix, and Ibis
