Caregivers can now handle prescriptions for family members directly through their own accounts. Medicare beneficiaries will gain access to PillPack’s convenient medication delivery service, per a press release.
The first update allows caregivers to use Amazon Pharmacy’s new feature to manage medications for family members, or loved ones, who need assistance via their accounts. The second focuses on customers with Medicare insurance, who can use PillPack to make it easier to manage multiple medications at once. These packets can be organized and labeled by date and time to make managing these healthcare elements easier.
John Love, VP of Amazon Pharmacy, explained how these updates will benefit consumers. “These updates deliver what our customers have been asking for—simpler medication management for themselves and their loved ones. Whether you’re a caregiver juggling multiple prescriptions for an aging parent, or a customer who could benefit from the convenience of pre-sorted packets delivered reliably each month, we’re removing barriers and making pharmacy work better for you.”
“Caregiving comes with enormous responsibilities, and managing multiple medications is one of the most challenging aspects,” said Tess Carey, senior pharmacist at Amazon Pharmacy.
“Amazon Pharmacy’s new caregiver feature provides a secure, streamlined way for trusted individuals to help manage prescriptions and place orders 24/7, when and where convenient for them—all through their own Amazon accounts. This ensures medications arrive on time, giving both caregivers and patients greater peace of mind,” Carey added.
One-in-Five Adults Are Caregivers and Managing Medications is Challenging, Says Amazon Pharmacy
Per AARP, one-in-five U.S. adults is caring for an aging family member. This totals to around 53 million people nationwide.
One of the most challenging aspects of caregiving is managing a loved one’s medications, essential for quality of life. It is also critical to avoid costly errors. Customers can enable caregiver support by logging into their Amazon Pharmacy account and sending an invitation via the caregiver’s mobile number. Once the caregiver receives a secure SMS link and verifies key details, such as the customer’s date of birth, they can begin managing prescriptions through their own Amazon account.
Additionally, Amazon Pharmacy offers caregivers and customers a convenient solution for those who take take multiple daily medications. PillPack delivers personalized monthly packets with doses clearly labeled by date and time. This eliminates the hassle of juggling pill bottles and simplifies medication routines.
Amazon Pharmacy works with most major insurance plans, including Medicare Part D across the U.S. and Medicaid in select states. Prime members receive added benefits through programs like RxPass and Prime Rx savings, which offer discounts of up to 80% on thousands of generic and brand-name prescriptions when paying without insurance, at no extra cost beyond Prime membership. PillPack is available at no additional charge.
