[Correspondence] USA–China tariffs on pharmaceuticals affect global health equity

US President Donald Trump's decision to impose punitive tariffs of 145% for pharmaceutical imports from China,1 effective since April 10, 2025, will pose substantial challenges towards global health security, marking an evolution in the trade tiff between the USA and China. This policy harms the delicate balance between the pharmaceutical industry and its supply chains, worsens access to affordable medication, and threatens equitable health-care access.
