Breastfeeding Interventions in Primary Care
In a new Recommendation Statement, the US Preventive Services Task Force (USPSTF) has upheld its prior B recommendation for breastfeeding support interventions in primary care. The rating, recommendation, and accompanying summary of evidence indicate, with moderate certainty, that breastfeeding interventions and/or referrals provided prenatally and postpartum have moderate net benefit and should be provided to adults and adolescents without breastfeeding contraindications. This updated recommendation provides an important, evidence-based directive for delivering lactation support—an area that remains underresearched and poorly integrated into health systems.
