AMRs and AGVs Augment Material Handling Efficiency and Safety
Reduce your shop’s risk of accidents and improve workflow by autonomously navigating complex environments. The post AMRs and AGVs Augment Material Handling Efficiency and Safety appeared first on Fabricating & Metalworking.

Autonomous mobile robots (AMRs) and Automated Guided Vehicles (AGVs) automate repetitive and physically demanding tasks, freeing up your team to focus on more complex and value-added activities within the shop. What’s more, these systems streamline workflows and reduce cycle times.
AMRs Assist in Overcome Intralogistics Challenges
KUKA Robotics Corp.’s (Shelby Township, MI) new KMP 3000P and KMP 600P autonomous mobile robots (AMRs) meet manufacturing workforce challenges with improved production. With the capacity to transport loads up to three tons in any direction, including diagonally, the new KMP 3000P’s omnidirectional drive ensures maximum flexibility in the tightest of spaces in intralogistics. Four integrated 3D cameras and two laser scanners enable a 360° view, allowing the platform to recognize obstacles and drive around them effortlessly. This increases efficiency and safety in a variety of working environments while eliminating the need for in-floor guide systems. Equipped with an inductive charging system, the KMP 3000P charges wirelessly both centrally in a station and/or at various locations within the area through inductive charging pads attached to a facility’s floor.
The KMP 600P is the most compact platform in KUKA’s high-performance P series of AMRs to date and is particularly suitable for confined production environments. With a 600-kg payload, the KMP 600P is a cost-effective platform for efficient material supply from the warehouse to work stations, assembly lines or preassembly lines as well as for process linking and reliable point-to-point transporting.
Automate and Future-proof Handling Processes

For manufacturers looking to automate their material movement, the new MasterMover Inc. (Charlotte, NC) PowerSteered models are available as Automated Guided Vehicles (AGVs). MasterMover recently expanded its PowerStreered range with six new models designed to meet diverse load-moving challenges.
The AGVs boast both Line Follow navigation and advanced natural feature technology for fully automated material handling, offering manufacturers the flexibility to future-proof handling processes. These systems can be seamlessly integrated into existing workflows, paving the way for smarter, more efficient factories and processes.
“As we unveil this expanded range, we’re not just launching new products; we’re opening up new possibilities for our clients,” noted James Jones, partner at MasterMover. “From improving worker safety to enabling leaner, more agile operations, the impact of these innovations will be felt across entire supply chains.”
Securely Monitor the Speed of Autonomous Mobile Systems

Autonomous Mobile Robots (AMRs) and Autonomous Guided Vehicles (AGVs) are increasingly being used in manufacturing environments, with the safety of the production environment being a key concern. Siemens has introduced the software-based solution Safe Velocity to ensure the safe monitoring of the speed of AMRs and AGVs. The benefits include reduced energy consumption, simplified design, and integration while meeting all safety standards. The Siemens solution helps prioritize human safety while optimizing autonomous mobile systems in terms of space requirements and cost efficiency.
