Former American tennis player Ryan Harrison aimed a dig at Andy Murray during Novak Djokovic’s clash against Tomas Machac on Friday.

Murray is currently working as part of Djokovic’s coaching team for the Australian Open after entering retirement following the Paris Olympics.

Djokovic, aiming to clinch a historic 25th Grand Slam singles title at Melbourne Park, locked horns with 26th-seed Machac in the third round.

During the Djokovic vs Machac clash, Harrison, working for the BBC, took a swipe at Murray for his poor head-to-head record against the Czech star.

Harrison said there was no advice the British legend was able to give to the Serbian, given that Murray lost both of his ATP matches against Machac.

Murray played Machac twice before his retirement – which both came in 2024 – with the Czech star beating him in Marseille and Miami.

‘Andy Murray would have thought he was safe from his head-to-head match-up records against certain players after retiring, but you have to hold him accountable right?’ Harrison told the BBC during the second set.

‘He didn’t necessarily have all the answers when he was playing Tomas Machac, so then you have to wonder if he didn’t have the answers himself then what is he going to be telling Novak Djokovic?’

Djokovic praised Murray for his mid-match advice following his first-round win over American teenager Nishesh Basavareddy earlier in the tournament.

Speaking in his on-court interview, Djokovic said: ‘I’m obviously thrilled to have him in my corner.

‘I must say it was a little bit of a strange experience to have him courtside in my box.

‘He gave me some great advice mid-match. He’s been doing really well. It’s been an enjoyable experience and hopefully we don’t stop here.’

Djokovic will pass Margaret Court in the all-time standings for the most Grand Slam singles trophies (25) if he lands an 11th Australian Open title this year.
