The ‘most expensive NFL game’ ever is happening and it doesn’t involve Patrick Mahomes or the Chiefs

A new NFL record is expected to be set. The Detroit Lions have again seen ticket prices soar for their games and their playoff match on Saturday has seen it reach a new high. It will be a full house at Ford Field… if you can afford a ticketGetty Jayden Daniels and the Washington Commanders will face the Lions in Detroit’s Ford Field in the Divisional Round of the playoffs. Saturday’s clash is one the most highly anticipated games of the weekend with it involving the No.1 Seed the Lions and the sixth seed, the Commanders. Rookie of the Year favourite Daniels is set to feature and will take on a Detroit team that won 15 games in the regular season this year. But fans are discovering they will have to fork out a fortune to see their team in action. According to TickPick, the average purchase of the game is $981, making it the most expensive game in the site’s history excluding Super Bowls. This may come as a surprise to many given the Kansas City Chiefs, aiming for history by winning three Super Bowls in a row and led by Patrick Mahomes, are facing the Texans and rookie QB CJ Stroud. That means a ticket to the Lions game is more expensive than the other three other playoff games combined, with the cheapest Texans vs Chiefs ticket priced at $102, Los Angeles Rams v Eagles at $201 and the Ravens v Bills at $123. StubHub, another ticket reseller, announced the Commanders-Lions game was outselling the second-best-selling game between the Ravens and Bills by 188%. The most expensive seat is on VividSeats, where a lower level position seat is priced at whopping $6,105.  This means Saturday’s game has topped last season’s divisional round game between the Lions and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, where an average seat was $948.  Fans are paying sky high prices just to get a glimpse of rookie QB DanielsGetty Penei Sewell and his teammates will be hoping to make history for the Lions and play in their first ever Super BowlGetty Detroit is no stranger to mouth-watering ticket prices with all of the top three expensive non-Super Bowl NFL games happening at the Lions’ stadium. The Commanders have not played the Lions since 2022 and it will be the first time rookie quarterback Daniels will play in this match up. Detroit head coach Dan Campebll admitted they are an unknown opponent but he is enjoying the game-planning process nevertheless.  “I think there’s a level of excitement,” he said on Monday.  “Part of it is, you see another team you faced twice, let’s say, you know each other, you know them, they know you. It’s a different level of game-planning because you’re into that third level of chess, whereas the opponent you haven’t faced yet.” Washington finished with a 12-5 record this season and are riding a hot streak, with six consecutive wins including Sunday’s 23-20 win over the Buccaneers in the wild-card round. Daniels himself had a stellar performance, recording 268 passing yards and two touchdowns while running for 36 yards.
