[Comment] Africa's renaissance amid declining overseas health aid

Many African countries have long relied on overseas development aid to implement health programmes. Unfortunately, this aid has fostered dependency and fragmentation, often introducing vertical programmes that operate parallel to government plans. The USA, historically the largest provider of such support (which contributes to the maintenance of the USA's soft power in Africa) has taken a sudden and chaotic U-turn, drastically reducing aid and restructuring or dismantling the institutions responsible for its implementation.
